Biography of Chessney Sevier

A great source of Chessney Sevier’s artistic aspiration comes from her mother’s artistic example and the simple beauty of the Nebraska Sandhills where she grew up. On a rodeo scholarship, Chessney attended Chadron Stage College and later graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Fine Art in 1998. She first began her artistic career as a graphic designer for a leading outdoor recreation company. Later, after moving to Wyoming in 2001 she became a full-time professional painter and printmaker. Today, the Wyoming landscape and culture influence her work more than anything else. Chessney lives outside of Buffalo, Wyoming but spends time with her daughter, Jymie who is going to college in Weatherford, Texas.

Artist Statement

I knew I was different in high school when we would travel to games in the school bus. Everyone else was focusing on the game and doing what high school kids do and I was
gazing out the window at the landscape, seeing a thousand different paintings.

Art has always been an important part of my life, through the careers and raising my daughter, it’s always been there. My way of life and history here in Wyoming inspires
me and it’s the day to day simple things that I choose to represent.

Primarily a printmaker and painter, I print and paint in my home studio and from life. Being able to express myself through art has been a tremendous gift and I will continue to create as long as possible.
